Hungarian Rovás Converter

Transliterate Hungarian between the Latin alphabet and Székely-Hungarian Rovás — the Old Hungarian runic script. Works both directions, entirely in your browser.

Latin → Rovás
Output appears here.

Old Hungarian is written right-to-left. If the runes show as empty boxes, your device lacks an Old Hungarian font — the copied text is still correct and will render anywhere that has one (e.g. Windows’ Segoe UI Historic).

Runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded to PayloadIQ.

Rovás (Székely-Hungarian rovásírás) is the historical runic script of the Hungarian language. This converter maps each Hungarian letter — including the digraphs cs, gy, ly, ny, sz, ty and zs — to its rune in the Unicode Old Hungarian block (U+10C80–U+10CFF), and back again.

It follows real Rovás conventions: the letter k uses its front rune (ek) or back rune (ak) depending on the neighbouring vowel, and Arabic numbers are rendered with the Old Hungarian numerals (so 2026 becomes Rovás digits).

The script is traditionally written right-to-left, so the output is displayed that way; the copied characters are in standard logical order and will render correctly anywhere an Old Hungarian font is installed. Everything runs locally — no text leaves your browser.
